    • Skilled labors are required to design the piles
    • Prestressed structure is made up of high strength materials hence higher are the losses due to shrinkage.
    • They are costlier than normal construction
    • In the process of prestressing, additional equipments such as jacks are required.

    Prestressed piles are cast in the factory or yard and then installed in a site. Since they are precast, they have the disadvantages associated with the precast technology.

    • They are heavy and difficult to transport
    • Skilled labors are required
    • Special equipments are required for the erection of the piles
    • They produce noise pollution during installation
    • It is difficult to extend them if needed.
    • Extra reinforcement has to be provided to cut down the handling stresses and transport stresses

    If it is a hard strata, isolated footings would be sufficient. However, to withstand the seismic forces, all the isolated footings must be connected with one another using a tie beam. This tie beam can resist the differential movement in strata due to the seismic loads.

    If it is a soft strata, then a raft foundation or pile foundation is necessary. But both pile foundation and raft foundation cannot counteract the effect of liquefaction. If the soil is found to be susceptible to liquefaction, then proper ground improvement methods should be followed before the construction of the foundation.

    Air has mass (from molecules) and in motion has dynamic energy, which is converted to pressure as the body tries to stop or slow down, is called as dynamic pressure. Generally measured in the tube (pitot) and also comprises static pressure at that pt too.

    Vena contract is the point in flowing fluid at where the pressure energy is minimum and kinetic energy is maximum. This phenomenon happens because of the fluid streamline can't change its direction abruptly. Streamline can't follow Sharpe angles so vena contract forms.

    You can check the quality of reinforcement at the site in three ways.

    1. Mass per run meter – take 4 number of cutting bar of length 1 meter and check the average length and weight of each and check the mass per run meter.

    2. Bend test – bend test should be followed IS code 1599, and the rebar sample should be bend 180° as per IS 1599.

    3. Rebend test – first bend the rebar sample at 135°, and after that, keep it in boiling water of 100° C for 30 mins. After cool it down, bend it into 157.5°, and rebar should not show the crack or any rupture during this bend.
