The density of water changes with respect to change in temperature. The density of water can be calculated as the mass of water per unit volume. Relative density is the term used for the ratio of density of a substance to the density of a given reference material. Usually for the calculation of relative density of materials, the density of water is taken as the reference. The density of water is usually taken as 1000kg/m3 or 1g/cm3. This consideration makes the relative density calculation of other materials very convenient. However, it is to be noted that the density of water is 1000 kg/m3 only at the 40C. At the room temperature, the density of water changes to 996.542 kg/m3. For the calculation of relative density, the density of water is taken as 1000kg/m3 or 1g/cm3.
