    In accordance to the latest revision of IS 1786(2008) Fe 500D is a new introduction of deformed steel bar that has same specified minimum 0.2 percent proof stress/yield stress but with enhanced specified minimum percentage elongation.

    Compaction test of soil is carried out using Proctor’s test for understanding the compaction characteristics of different soils with change in moisture content. The ability for compacting a soil depends on the water content of the soil. Thus, water acts as a lubricant between the soil grains however as its content increases the water may occupy the entire pores. Since it is relatively incompressible in comparison to the air it may restrict compaction. Proctor compaction test is used to determine the optimum moisture content during compaction which gives the greatest soil density.

    Generally, shear strength is a term used in soil mechanics to describe the magnitude of the shear stress that a soil can sustain. The shear resistant of soil is a result of friction and interlocking of particles, and possibly cementation or bonding at particle contacts. Due to interlocking, particulate material may expand or contract in volume as it is subject to shear strength. If soil expands its volume, the density of particles will decrease and the strength will decrease; in this case the peak strength would be followed by a reduction of shear stress.

    Centring of the column is done during the placing of layout on-site with the help of rope and plumb Bob.

    For the construction of column following are the steps performed,

    1. Column layout
    2. Reinforcement of column
    3. Column formwork
    4. Concrete pouring

    Centring of the column is done with the help of plumb bob and rope. Plumb Bob placed vertically from the top of rope point and it touches to the ground. Mark the point where plumbob touch the ground and done the PCC work.

    What checking the vertical alignment, old a plumb bob at the top at any one edge of the column and inspect the plumb Bob is vertically straight and just touch the bottom offset of the column. If plumb Bob is inclined at some angle, then check its inclination where it shows the column is not vertical and inclined by some angle.

    Rigid pavements because of their nature, allow for a larger variation in subgrade material (in terms of strength), unlike flexible pavements. That is why rigid pavements can be built over almost any kind of soils with appropriate ground improvement. The general range for CBR is 2% to 14% or 15%. IfRead more

    Rigid pavements because of their nature, allow for a larger variation in subgrade material (in terms of strength), unlike flexible pavements. That is why rigid pavements can be built over almost any kind of soils with appropriate ground improvement.

    The general range for CBR is 2% to 14% or 15%. If it is found below 6%, then the code specifies some necessary subgrade improvement before laying the concrete slab directly over it.

    Also, the CBR could be increased up to say 40% or 50% by ground improvement, and still, the subgrade may be fit for rigid pavements.

    Use of column stiffener:

    Column stiffeners are the second section or plates which are used as an attachment for the flanges and beam webs which stiffen them against plain deformation.

    • Stiffeners are used to control local buckling.
    • It is used to connect bracing and transverse beams.
