    TIE BEAM :- The beam which connects two or more columns/rafters in a roof/roof truss or in any height above floor level is called tie beam.     TIE BEAM :-

    The beam which connects two or more columns/rafters in a roof/roof truss or in any height above floor level is called tie beam. Tie beams are mainly provided in roof truss and at plinth level. These beams do not convey any floor loads and only act as length breaker for columns where the floor height is unusually high.

    The main purpose of tie beam is to carry axial compression and to transfer the rafters load to the column. It also prevents column from buckling.

    PLINTH BEAM :-

    The beam which is provided at the plinth level is called plinth beam. In farmed structure, this beam is the first beam constructed after foundation.

    The purpose of plinth beam is to distribute loads of walls over the foundation and it also connect all the columns. It also prevents cracks from the foundation to the wall. It also avoid differential settlement.

    Basically sill is known as the horizontal bed of the mortar which is usually as wide as the wall provided below windows or other openings. Therefore sill supports the windows. And lintel is made up of reinforced concrete or cement mortar .Therefore lintel support the wall above the openings.

    Mostly the ratio of 1:1.5:3 is used for M20 grade of concrete So, Volume of dry concrete = 1.54 to 1.57 times volume of wet concrete Assume, 1cum of concrete work ratio sum = 1+1.5+3 = 5.5 shrinkage or safety factor = 1.57 Total volume of wet concrete required is = 1.57cum Volume of broken stone reqRead more

    Mostly the ratio of 1:1.5:3 is used for M20 grade of concrete

    So, Volume of dry concrete = 1.54 to 1.57 times volume of wet concrete

    Assume, 1cum of concrete work ratio sum = 1+1.5+3 = 5.5

    shrinkage or safety factor = 1.57

    Total volume of wet concrete required is = 1.57cum

    Volume of broken stone require = (3/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.856 m3

    Volume of sand require = (1.5/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.471 m3

    Volume of cement = (1/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.285 m3
    =0.285*1440 =411 kg

    For 1 m3 of M20 (1:1.5:3)

    Broken stone = 0.856 m3

    Sand = 0.472 m3

    Cement = 8.22 bag

    Therefore,
    8 bag of cement is required for 1cum of concrete work in M20

    Abutment in bridge is designed as earth pressure and rest condition because abutments support the ends of the bridge and transfer the loads from the superstructure in to the ground. The abutments also support the bearing devices and the backwalls Moreover, bridge abutments connect the deck, or surface of the bridge, to the ground and help support its weight both horizontally and vertically. On short bridges, one abutment is placed at either end of the bridge and connected to the embankment, sometimes including a retaining wall.

    Cable stayed bridges may look similar to suspension bridges. They both have roadways that hang from cables and both have towers. But the two bridges support the load of the roadways in very different ways. The difference lies in how the cables are connected to the towers . In suspension bridges, the cable ride freely across the towers, transmitting the load to the anchorages at either end. In cable stayed bridges, the cables are attached to the towers, which alone bear the load.

    The cable can be attached to the roadway in a variety of ways. In a radial pattern cables extend from several points on the road to a single point at the top of the tower. In a parallel pattern, cables are attached at different heights along tower running parallel to one another.
