From my view M.Tech will be the best option after B.Tech because it holds many job opportunities with it. A candidate can get job easily in research and development organizations, manufacturing firms, and IT companies as project manager, Research Associate and Senior Engineers.

    Career growth :

As a civil engineer, career growth is really important to stick in the field of construction.

Civil engineers have to rebuild bridges, upgrade and dams and repair roads

But if we want to go further then we should increase our educational as well as technical skill in the field of civil engineering.

As a structural engineer, I strongly recommend that after a bachelor degree in civil engineering, any graduate student must do his or her P.G.

    PG is available in various fields, they are as follows;

    • Geotechnical engineering
    • Structural engineering
    • Construction management
    • Transportation engineering
    • Structural designing

Now I will tell you various types of jobs available after civil engineering,

    1. Building control server
    2. Building engineer
    3. Building services engineer
    4. Construction engineer
    5. Cost and estimation engineer
    6. Engineering geologist
    7. Environmental engineer
    8. Estimation and Costing engineer
    9. Planning engineer
    10. Geotechnical engineer
    11. Project engineer
    12. Quality server
    13. Sales engineer
    14. Site engineer
    15. Quality Assurance or quality cell
    16. Specification engineer
    17. Structural engineer
    18. Transportation engineer
    19. Water engineer

The building bye-laws are one of the legal tools which are used to regulate coverage, the height of the building, building bulk ok and architectural design to achieve construction aspect of building and orderly development of the area.

As per my knowledge, Ministry of housing and urban affairs has made amendments to the model building by-law 2016 and urban regional development plans formulation and implementation guidelines 2014.

The amendments done in 2014 is establish Inc electric vehicle charging infrastructure in order to facilitate the availability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Ministry of power again issued guidelines and Standards for charging infrastructure for various electric vehicles which have only considered while making such amendments.

Civil engineering the oldest known engineering of the world. And hence it is related to everything. The question you have asked has different views from different people. Here I have listed career options as per different interests.

Career for those who want to work in the core construction area

You can go for Designing (Structural design)

You can join different consultants such as Geotechnical consultants, quality control consultant, etc.

You can also find the above domains in big construction companies itself.

You can choose specific roles where you are good at such as surveying

Career for those who want to build their career in Roads and Highways

You can join a company which is into road construction

You can go to traffic engineering

Career for those who want to build their career in environmental engineering

You can join a company for water treatment

You can go for wastewater treatment

You can also go for fecal sludge management

Career for those who want to build their career in research

You can do an M.Tech and then Ph.D. from a reputed college, where you can do research for new materials, methods and much more, Most of the people interested in this work as a faculty member in a college and simultaneously do research works.

Career for those who want to build their career in Construction Management

You can be a planning engineer, site execution engineer, etc if you do a construction management course or have some experience in the construction site.

You can also go for Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Note all the above roles I have mentioned are assuming you are a fresher. once you gain some experience you can choose a more specific domain such as tunneling, high rise structure, roads and highways, bridges, metros, Sewer treatment plant work as a more responsible domain like project engineer or construction manager and project manager.

As you grow you will learn more and you will find your interest more clear and you will go there.

Some more options for civil engineers

    Facility Management

    Operations Management

    Contract Management

Some options for Civil Engineers other than the construction industry

Software development for civil construction companies there are companies like, CSI, Bentley, Autodesk which does that.
