    • In weight steel have higher weight
    • Steel is tough & harder than alluminium
    • Generally we use steel as a reinforced member in concrete structures
    • Esay to weld with other structural components.

    Aluminum

    • Higher corrosion resistance
    • Higher cost
    • Higher
    • malleability and elastic properties
    • Lesser weight
    • Generally we not use in concrete
    • Difficult to weld
    • Aluminum is soft metal compare to steel.

     

    We are generally use steel as a reinforcement.

    We doesn’t use aluminium because of soft metal property

    Having smaller diameter rebar distributed throughout the structure also distributes the load from the concrete to the steel more effectively as there is a greater area of contact for adhesion between the two.

    The beam, which is reinforced from both zones i.e., compression and tension, that beam is said as Doubly Reinforced beam. It is usually given when the depth of the beam is constricted. It is obviously not safe to provide a singly r/f beam with min depth resulting in failure due to insufficient resistance to oppose the bending moment.

    Moment of resistance could not be increased by increasing the steel in the tension zone. Rather it can be increased by increasing the reinforcement, but it should not exceed 25% of the strained side. That’s why a doubly reinforced beam is provided to increase the moment of resistance of a beam having limited dimensions.

    Poisson’s ratio is defined as the ratio of the change in the width per unit width of a material, to the change in its length per unit length as a result of strain. Poisson ratio measures the deformation in the material in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the applied force.
    Mathematically, poissons ratio is equal to the negative of the ratio of lateral strain and longitudinal strain. Therefore, if the poisson’s ratio is greater than the strength is greater.

    Here, the designers gets a natural advantage of using T or L beams in any structure with slab beam construction. It is mainly used in frame type structure. A T-beam or Tee-beam is used in a construction process which is a load bearing structure of a reinforced concrete, wood or metal having T-shaped cross-section. The vertical section (web) of the beam below the compression flange serves to resist shear stress and to provide greater separation for the coupled forces of bending.
    Therefore, in any situation of beam-slab we can use T-beam.
