Some of the advantages of using a steel tube rather than solid section steel are :-
1. Less Steel used so less cost.
2. Less Weight for a given design strength.
3. Less Weight for a given Length.

Hi,
Sections of Tubular steel are strong, basically, against longitudinal stress, that’s why steel tubes are used for scaffolding. Steel tubing and steel pipes are greatly resistant to compression against lengthways, and also offer better resistance to bending forces than flat steel sheet.
On another side, a solid tube section has more weight which makes the surface load increases. It also increases the cost of construction and project. The solid section as more affinity towards corrosion which is uneconomical.
