In steelmaking, impurities such as nitrogen, silicon, phosphorous, sulfur and excess carbon are removed from the source iron and alloying elements such as manganese, nickel, chromium, carbon, and vanadium are added to produce different grades of steel.

The major impurities added are Manganese, Nickel, Chromium, Vanadium, and Carbon. In addition to this, dissolved gases like Nitrogen and Oxygen are also added to maintain the quality of the steel.

Impurities such as manganese, chromium, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium to produce alloys that produce properties which have specific properties. Also, steel has some amount of carbon, which is to be removed so that if they contain a high amount of carbon, then it will make steel brittle in nature.
