What is Castellated Beam? Why we provide it?

A castellated beam is a modified I beam where the steel I section is cut longitudinally into two halves in a certain zigzag cut, and the two sections are joined back after shifting to create a beam with a deeper web and increased strength.

The castellated beam is a rolled steel beam that has an expended section that allows a predetermined hexagonal pattern to be cut directly on the webs of the beams. Castellated beam geometric properties are typically thinner than a standard steel rolled beam.

The castellated beam is a modified steel beam. In which the beam is cut in the central web portion were no great force is present.
Cut near to neutral axis of the beam where we required less amount of material mass to resist various force.
The opening shape may be hexagonal, rectangular, circular, etc.
