What is Timbering of Foundation Trenches?

Stability of slope comforms the ability of soil to withstand surcharge load and self weight of the soil mass in a pre determined slope . This is calculated as pet soil properties and slip circle method may be adopted.
The concept has major applications in soil mechanics and material retaining structures like silos. The calculations basically estimate stability of sloping contours of a heap of stacked material. Any basic text in SMFE will familiarise you with the concepts and calculations.
The main factors involved are relative density of the material, inter-granular friction, inter-granular cohesion, wetness and water table, and formation of a slip surface apart from static and dynamic loads affecting stability of the slope under consideration.
A proper stability analysis and executing suitable corrective measures is vital to ensure continued serviceability of transportation infrastructures, and safety of water impounding structures, silos etc.,.

Hi, this is a more crucial and common issue as a civil engineer.
Foundation settlement must be prevented by analysis carefully of the soil before the building Foundation constructed. Non-expansive is the best soil for building foundation. It simply means that it contains a little clay or silt content. In an ideal condition, the building site should be native soil nature than an artificial field soil from outside.
Before construction, ensure to consult a civil engineer for determining the various factors of load-bearing soil at that place. If any necessary changes of the soil or in the foundation constructed method it determined early.
because many other cases the solution would be a simple or just by extending the foundation up to the hard strata from poor soil.

Pile Foundation is a Deep Foundation provided when a hard stratum is at great depth. If the soil is not taking the load then piles must be driven into the soil up to 3 to 4 m depth. Piles may be made up of concrete or steel.
So, pile Foundation is used for soil with less bearing capacity. When a hard rock stratum of soil is found at reasonable depth then pile Foundation should be provided. The soil about the pet rock must support skin friction resistance.

Hi there!
I’d like to point it out that if foundation movement doesn’t necessarily mean repair is needed, it doesn’t necessarily mean that repair is not needed. Does it?
Foundations undergo differential or non-differential settlements. Non-differential settlement is not such a big cause of worry, but differential settlement can take your foundations beyond repairability in a few years’ time. They’d need to be completely replaced, which could be very costly. Also, it’ll need underpinning which is not very suitable in some kinds of soil.
Apart from this, there’s another question that how much is your foundation moving. If it’s a lot then it’s a no brainier. You need to get it repaired. Your country’s codes for Settlement calculation in buildings and foundation design will help you out in this. You can look them up.
Also, your foundation may either bulge or tilt. That factor also plays a role in deciding whether it needs to be repaired. Lastly, look up if there is a crack developing in the foundation if you could. If it’s a vertical crack, it’s an indication that vertical movents are causing serious problems. Even if there are horizontal cracks, it’s better to get the foundation repaired.
PS : It’ll be best if you took an experienced foundation engineer to look into the matter.

You mean to say longer span. The main reinforcement is provided on the longer span because the longest span is in a more critical situation and has to bear a higher bending moment. This is because the uplift pressure from the soil below will be equal in all locations, but the moment developed at the longer span will be higher because of a long arm. It’s a uniformly distributed load, and so it produces a larger moment on a longer beam. Hence, the main reinforcement is put in a longer span.
