    The presence of moisture due to various reasons is simply the meaning of the wet basement.  In the area of the basement, efflorescence will occur. Efflorescence means the deposition of white powder on the surface due to the presence of alkalies.

    Benefits of Masonry Buildings :

    • Fire protection ; Fire protection benefits of concrete masonry are recognised by the Fire service and insurance industry. The extra ability to resist fire comes from the types of aggregates used and the equivalent solid thickness of the masonry units.
    • Sound Control ; Masonry is an ideal sound barrier, providing reduced sound transmission relative to the size of the wall.
    • Structural durability ; Masonry construction provides solidity, permanence and a real sense of substance.
    • Energy efficiency ; The main benefit of masonry construction is the cost setting derived from its capacity to store energy and to delay the passage of heat.

    Timber Buildings ;


    Timber construction is a category of framing styles typically characterized by the use of large solid wood panels for wall, floor and roof constrution. It also includes innovative forms of sculptural buildings and non-building structures formed from solid wood panel or framing system.

    • Low embodied energy if constructed in local timber.
    • Quick build time.
    • Reduced time to weather the structure.
    • It can be built to exceed 60 year design life.
    • Low volume of waste on site requiring removal.

      Natural period:

    • The natural period of a building is simply a time taken by it to undergo one complete cycle of oscillation.
    • The natural period is one of the properties or building which is controlled by mass and stiffness.
    • Formula to find out natural period is,

    Tn =2π√(m/k) where,

    • Tn is a natural period of building.
    • m is mass
    • k is stiffness

    Reciprocal of the natural period of a building is nothing but the natural frequency and its unit is Hertz(Hz)

    CBR test is done in construction materials laboratories to evaluate the strength of soil subgrades and base course materials. The purpose of soil sample soaked in water for 7days is to find out the strength of the sample after soaking continuously in water. The effective CBR should be 75% .

    Hi, sunlight is the best source of light and energy. So to use effectively, the placing of windows and other openings and reflective surfaces matters a lot.

    As a civil engineer, it’s our aim to maximize the comfort of the user and reduce the energy consumption for saving electricity.

    The design of the building should be like this the rays of sunlight it will be scattered from the wall and reflect and cover a maximum area of the house. There will be no direct sunlight on polar sites of the walls that are north facing and south-facing. Providing large Windows is a good option to maximize the use of natural sources of light.

    In the present scenario, translucent concrete is been used as concrete which transfers the light in various commercial buildings to reduce the use of artificial electricity. This is a great gift from nanotechnology.

    the position of lights inside the room must be at the middle of the wall and not at the corners so that lights spread 180 degrees.
